Chickens. Delicious, tasty chickens. From fricassee to bhuna, they are a versatile and nutritious foodstuff, condemned to end up in the cooking pot to be enjoyed by all. Except, they've apparently had enough, and their brethren from space have come to take galactic revenge on mankind by blowing them to smithereens.

Such is the plot behind Chicken Invaders 3, a fun, fast-paced shoot-em-up with gameplay taken straight from the arcade. There's nothing too original in here, but what is provided is tried-and-testing, trigger-finger action with spaceships, laser guns, and enormous fowls bent on destruction.

From the beginning, the game shows excellent presentation; from the film-score type music to the intro which borrows heavily from a certain galactic-battle saga featuring a man with a dark helmet, everything seems polished and created with pride. The humorous storyline fits well with the game, and the player follows the story at exactly the right pace. And in the game too, the little touches elevate this above the usual run-of-the-mill shooter and make it a little more special.

If you like big weapons, fast-paced shooting action, and collecting chickenburgers and drumsticks, you'll like this game. It's finger-lickin' good!

...Would benefit from a branding trip with this little game. I love it, especially when you zap the chickens and they turn in to drumsticks. Under the hood (the tech-heads will love that term), its (the game) a space invaiders clone, with the chickens. Some of the powers up are burgers. They should really be chicken burgers. I love animals, as some readers might have worked out. So this title gets the thumbs up. What I also love about this title is the whole user interface and design. It's very cute and soft. The mouse arrow - a shiny silver fork - is a subtle touch too. Twee. I like turkey twizzlers. Poor bloke that Saint Bernard; he's just an honest guy trying to make a living. Tears in the hen-house. it's KFC, button-bashing fun. Cool sound too. Games need to be supported by appropirate sound.

This is one of those great games that shouldn't work, but somehow it does. Basically Space Invaders, 1942, that sort of thing, but with chickens. Surprisingly addictive.

This is one of those great games that shouldn't work, but somehow it does. Basically Space Invaders, 1942, that sort of thing, but with chickens. Surprisingly addictive.

At first I honestly thought it would be a nasty cheap rip off, but it's beautifully done, and with a lot of humour.

Basically the aim is to save the earth from the death star, err, giant egg. You have to right your way through waves of evil chickens, and the game even features decent sized end of level bosses.

If there was ever a shoot-em-up that anyone could play, it's this.

Five stars for the comedic cut scenes too!
